Basın toplantısında Türkiye’de 170 Yüksek Öğretim Kurumu bulunduğunu belirten YÖK Başkanı Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya, konferansın öneminden bahsederek üniversitelerin gerçekleştirdiği uluslararası işbirliklerini ve öğrenci hareketliliğini yakından takip ettiğini söyledi. Türk üniversitelerinin Avrupa’da ve diğer bölgelerde elde ettiği başarılardan memnun olduklarını belirterek, Türkiye’deki yeni yükseköğretim dönemini ve süreci değerlendirdi.
Konferansın ilk açılış konuşmasını Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman yaptı. Prof. Dr. Durman EURAS ve Konferansın amaçlarını özetleyen konuşmasında, İAÜ’nün yükseköğretimde tanınırlık ve uluslararasılaşma konularında yaptığı çalışmalardan bahsederek günümüzde bu konulardaki işbirliklerinin yalnızca ülkeler arasında değil, üniversiteler ve yükseköğretim alanında faaliyet gösteren kamu ve özel kurumlar ile sivil toplum kuruluşları arasında da sağlanmasının gerek ve önemini vurguladı. EURAS’ın kuruluş vizyonu ve misyonunu da bu gerek ve önem kapsamında kısaca özetleyen Prof. Dr. Durman, konuşmasının sonunda konferans programı hakkında katılımcıları kısaca bilgilendirdi. Prof. Dr. Durman konuşmasını bitirirken, Konferans’ta bulunmayı kabul eden tüm davetliler ve tüm katılımcılar ile, başta EURAS Genel Sekreterliği olmak üzere Konferans’ın organizasyonunda emeği geçen ve Konferansa destek veren herkese teşekkürlerini sundu.
İAÜ Mütevelli Heyeti ve EURAS Başkanı Dr. Mustafa Aydın ise EURAS’ın kuruluş vizyon ve misyonu ile bugüne kadar yaptığı çalışmaların bir özetini sunduğu konuşmasında, 18 Avrasya ülkesinden üniversitenin Rektör ve temsilcilerinin katıldığı konferansın çok verimli geçeceğini vurgulayarak, akreditasyon ve tanınırlık konusunda ortak birçok kararın çıkacağını söyledi.
Dr. Mustafa Aydın konuşmasında EURAS’ın kuruluş amacını, dünyada her alandaolduğu gibi yükseköğretimde de sınırların kalktığı günümüzde, coğrafi konumu itibariyle Avrupa ve Asya arasında bir köprü görevi gören ülkemizin yükseköğretim faaliyetlerinin küreselleşmesine katkısını artırmak olarak özetledi. Avrasya’nın tüm dünya ve Türkiye için stratejik önemine de rakamsal verilerle değinen Dr. Mustafa Aydın, Birliğin adının “Avrasya Üniversiteler Birliği” olmasının çalışma bölgesinin temel Avrasya ülkeleriyle kısıtlı olduğu anlamına gelmediğinin de altını çizdi. Birliğin batı Avrupa’dan tüm Balkanlar’a ve Karadeniz’in kuzeyinden Sankt Petersburg’a, doğuda ise Güney Kore ve Japonya’ya kadar 70 prestijli yükseköğretim kurumu ile yükseköğretim alanında faaliyet gösteren kamu ve özel kuruluşlardan üyelere sahip olduğunu ifade eden Dr. Aydın, EURAS’ın bu geniş sınırlar dahilindeki bölgesel yükseköğretim işbirliği faaliyetlerini, küresel yükseköğretime katkı sağlamak hedefiyle sürdürdüğünü ve kararlılıkla sürdürmeye devam edeceğini vurguladı.
9-10 Mayıs 2013 tarihleri arasında devam edecek olan, 18 ülkenin 60’ı aşkın üniversitesinden temsilcilerin yanı sıra, ulusal yükseköğretim çevrelerden de yoğun ilgi gören ve ilk günü itibariyle yüksek katılım gözlenen – EURAS Konferansı’nın sonuç bildirgesinin özenle değerlendireceğini belirten YÖK Başkanı Gökhan Çetinsaya, EURAS’ın yaptığı çalışmaların Türk Yükseköğretimine katkısının büyük olduğuna inandığını ifade etti. Konuşmasında yükseköğretimde uluslarasılaşmanın önemine özellikle vurgu yapan Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya bu konuda sürdürülen tüm çalışmaları YÖK olarak destekleyeceklerini de sözlerine ekledi. Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya konuşmasını EURAS, İAÜ ve konferansa üst düzey katılım sağlayan misafir bakanlara şahsı ve YÖK adına teşekkürlerini sunarak sonlandırdı.
Kosova Milli Eğitim Bilim ve Teknoloji Bakanı Prof. Dr. Rame Buja ise Kosova hakkında genel bir özet bilgilendirmeyle başladığı konuşmasında, Avrupa’nın en genç ülkesi olarak Avrupa Birliği ve Türkiye’den aldıkları maddi ve manevi yardımlarla zorlukları aştıklarını belirterek, özellikle Kosova’ya her konuda yardımını esirgemeyen Türkiye’ye teşekkürlerini sundu. Genel nüfusun %75’ine yakın oranda seyreden Kosova genç nüfusunun ülkeleri için büyük bir hazine olduğunu ifade eden Prof. Dr. Rame Buja, bu hazinenin doğru değerlendirilmesinde eğitimin büyük rolü olduğunu, dolayısıyla yükseköğretim başta olmak üzere bu konudaki tüm işbirliklerini en iyi şekilde destekleyeceklerini belirtti. Prof. Dr. Rame Ruja konuşmasının sonunda güzel bir sürpriz yaparak, Kosova’dan desteklerini esirgemeyen Türkiye’ye ve bu önemli konferansa ev sahipliği yapan İstanbul Aydın Üniversitesi Mütevelli Heyeti Başkanı Dr. Mustafa Aydın’a Türkçe teşekkür etti.
EURAS Başkanı Dr. Mustafa Aydın, Açılış konuşmalarının sonunda Konferans’a katılım ve katkılarından dolayı YÖK Başkanı Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya’ya bir şükran plaketi verdi. Kosova Milli Eğitim Bilim ve Teknoloji Bakanı Prof. Dr. Rame Buja’nın plaketi ise YÖK Başkanı Gökhan Çetinsaya tarafından sunuldu.
Konferans açılışı sonrasında İstanbul Aydın Üniversitesi’nin Cilt Bakımı ve Güzellik Bölümü, Kuyumculuk Bölümü, ve Yabancı Diller Eğitimi Bölümü ile Florya Kampüs bahçesini gezen YÖK Başkanı Gökhan Çetinsaya, bölümlerden oldukça etkilendiğini ifade etti. Kampüs bahçesini de oldukça beğenen Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya, bu beğenisini “en yakın zamanda bir kahve içmek için tekrar ziyarete geleceğim” sözleriyle ifade etti.
Konferans davetlileri ve EURAS Genel Koordinasyonu gün boyu süren Konferans çalışmalarının yorgunluğunu, akşam Ataköy Marina’dan başlayarak Boğaz Turu sonrası Kabataş İskelesi’nde sona eren ve EURAS Başkanı Dr. Mustafa Aydın’ın katılımıyla gerçekleşen yemekli tekne turunda attı.
Organizasyon konusunda da katılımcılardan açılış itibariyle olumlu not alan iki gün sürecek Konferans’ın sonuç bildirgelerinden, yalnızca EURAS için değil, ulusal ve uluslararası genel yükseköğretim çevreleri için de önemli sonuçlar çıkması bekleniyor.

At the press conference held prior to the meeting, President of İAÜ and EURAS Dr. Mustafa Aydın and the high level guests Higher Education Council Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya and Minister of National Education in Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Rame Buja responded the questions of the journalists.
Higher Education Council Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya remarked during the press meeting that there are over 170 Higher Educational Institutions in Turkey, mentioning the importance of the conference he added also to his words that he is monitoring the global cooperation realized by the universities and the students activities. Being content of the Turkish universities achieved success in Europe and other areas, Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya evaluated the new period and process of higher education in Turkey.
The opening speech was held by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman. Summarizing EURAS and the conferences’ objectives in his conversation, Prof. Dr. Durman mentioned the effort on recognition and internationalization of İAÜ in higher education and highlighted that nowadays cooperation in these issues shouldn’t be reduced to collaborations between countries, quite contrary cooperation should also be provided between public – private institutions serving in the fields of university and higher education and nongovernmental organizations. Summarizing the foundation vision and mission within the scope of need and importance, Prof. Dr. Durman enlightened the participants regarding the conference program at the end of his speech. Prof. Dr. Durman finalized his speaking by expressing his thanks to all guests agreed to participate the conference and all attendants, in the first instance to the general secretary of EURAS, the organizations contributors and to all supporters of the conference.
President of IAU and EURAS Dr. Mustafa Aydın, presenting a summary of the achievements made by the vision and mission of EURAS, emphasized that the conference with the attending rectors and representants of 18 Eurasian Universities will be very productive and that numerous resolutions regarding accreditation and recognition will be passed.
Dr. Mustafa Aydın précised in his discourse that the main objective of EURAS’ foundation is to increase the contribution of globalizing the higher educational activities of our country, which serves as a bridge due to its geographical location and where borders has been removed in the fields of higher education nowadays as well as in all other areas around the world. Explaining the strategic importance of Eurasia for the whole world and Turkey with figures, Dr. Mustafa Aydın highlighted that despite to the communities name “Eurasian Universities Union” the work area is not limited to the basic Eurasian countries. Stating that the Union holds 70 prestigious higher education institutes, located from West Europe over the whole Balkan states and the North Side of the Black Sea region to St. Petersburg, in the east with South Korea and Japan, are actively operating with public and private institutions in the field of higher education, Dr. Mustafa Aydın underlined that he is maintaining and will keep on being resolutely maintain the regional higher educational cooperation activities within this wide limits, which are practiced to support the global higher education.
Declaring that he will evaluate carefully the final declaration of the EURAS conference, which was held between 9-10 May 2013 and attracted great attention of representants of over 60 Universities from 18 countries as well as of national higher education environment, President of Council of Higher Education Gökhan Çetinsaya said that he believes that the EURAS’ efforts will have great positive contribution to the Turkish High Education. During his speech, Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya assured to support all activities carried out within this issue in the name of the Higher Education Council and particularly underscored the importance of the globalization in the field of Higher Education. Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya finalized his speech with expressing his appreciations in the name of YÖK and in his own behalf to EURAS, IAU and the High-level participants.
Kosovar Minister of National Education in Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Rame Buja started his speech with an overview information about Kosovo, which is the youngest country within Europe and which is just able to overcome tough times with moral and material support of Turkey and the European Union and thanked Turkey who gives countenance to Kosovo in every issue. Prof. Dr. Rame Buja indicated that 75 % of the general population consisting of young people constitutes a great treasure for their country, that education is a very important factor to benefit from this treasure, consequently and added to his words that they consequently will support the best possible all collaborations in this issue, primarily high education. At the end of his speech Prof. Dr. Rame Buja made a nice surprise by expressing his appreciations to the host of this special conference President of Istanbul Aydın University Dr. Mustafa Aydın and to Turkey.
President of EURAS Dr. Mustafa Aydın presented an appreciation plaque to the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya for his attendance and all his supports. The plaque of Kosovar Minister of National Education in Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Rame Buja has been presented by YÖK President Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya.
After the conference opening YÖK President Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya visited the Florya campus in attendance of Istanbul Aydın University’s Skin Care and Beauty, Treasury and Foreign Languages Departments and was very impressed by the departments. With the words “Soon I will visit you again for a couple of coffee” Prof. Dr. Çetinsaya verbalized his favor on the campus.
After a whole day continuing conference activities, the guests of the conference and the EURAS general coordination relieved their tiredness under participation of EURAS President Dr. Mustafa Aydın with a dinner on a Bosporus tour, beginning at Ataköy Marina and ending at the Kabataş pier.
Also receiving a positive note for the organizational part, important results are expected of the two-day conference of EURAS, also important for national and international Higher Education circles.
