Türkiye Gazetesi yazarı Ceren Kenar Türkiye’nin son 3 yıldır içinde bulunduğu Ortadoğu sorunu ile ilgili görüşlerini belirtti. Statükonun çökmeye başladığı yerde Türkiye’nin dış politika geliştirmeye çalıştığını ve komşularla olan ilişkinin nasıl olması gerektiği üzerinde durdu. Modern Ortadoğu’nun sınırlarını belirleyen Sykes/Picot düzeninden ve bunun etkilerinden bahseden Kenar “”Türkiye bölgede büyüyen bir aktör olmak istiyorsa risk almalıdır”” sözlerine yer verdi.
Gezi olaylarının etkilerindende bahseden Kenar Gezi olaylarıyla beraber Avrupa ve Amerika’daki medyada çok ciddi bir tavır değişikliği olduğunu ve bunun sebeplerinin ne olduğu konusu üzerinde durdu. Türkiye’deki gezi hareketlerinin Arap Devrimi ile farklılıklarından bahsetti. Aslında Türkiye’deki gezi hareketlerinin Amerika’da başlayan sosyalist sol üst sınıfın ve sol argümanlarla ‘Corporate Capitalism’ denilen ‘Occupy Wall Street’ hareketleri ile daha çok benzerlik gösterdiğini fakat Amerika ve Avrupa medyasının bunu bu şekilde görmeyip ilk çıkışından itibaren “”Turkish Spring”” yani “”Arap Baharı”” ‘na referansla “”Türk Baharı”” olarak nitelendirdiklerini vurguladı. Bu noktada Türkiye’nin kendini anlatma konusundaki sıkıntıların buna büyük etken ve bir eksiklik olduğu ortaya çıktı. Türkiye’nin o bölgede kendini anlatabilecek bir uzmanı ve kanalı olması gerektiğini söyledi. Ceren Kenar konu hakkındaki görüşlerini, önerilerini belirtti ve üyelerle görüş alışverişinde bulundu.
Toplantının sonunda Dr. Mustafa Aydın 4 yıl Mısır’da Askeri Ateşelik yapmış biri olarak Ortadoğu hakkında bilgilerini paylaştı. Ortadoğu’yu Türkiye açısından 3 açıdan değerlendirmesi gerektiğini savunan Aydın Osmanlı öncesi ve sonrası ve günümüz politikasındaki geçişlerin sert olmasından dolayı sorunların kaynaklandığını söyleyerek “”Biz dönemler arasındaki geçişi kontrol edemedik. Keskin bir hat kuruldu. Dönemler arasındaki geçişlerin yumuşak olmamasından dolayı geldiğimiz noktadaki sıkıntılar yaşanıyor”” dedi. Bir ülkede politikayı yürütürken tek taraflı değil birçok taraftan bağlantı kurarak dialoğun sürdürülmesinin önemini vurguladı. Son olarakta “”Hangi dünya aktörünün o coğrafya ile ne kadar ve ne için ilgilendiğini daha derinlemesine irdelememiz gerektiğinin kaçınılmaz olduğunu düşünüyorum. Bu irdelemeyi yaptıktan sonra belki orayla ilgili politikayı daha mantık çerçevesinde yürütüp bu sayede sıkıntıları en aza indirgemiş oluruz”” diyerek sözlerine son verdi.

Turkiye Gazetesi journalist Ceren Kenar presented her point of view on Turkey’s problems with the middle east the last 3 years. She spoke on the topic of how Turkey was trying to develop a collapsing system and the relations Turkey had with its neighbors. Kenar also mentioned about the Sykes/Picot order which determines the borders in the modern middle eastern world. Ceren also spoke of the effects of this order and also said, “”If Turkey wants to grow in the region, it has to take risks.””.
Kenar also mentioned the effects of the Gezi protests and also stayed on the topic of the serious changes in the attitudes of European and American media and the reasons for why this is happening. She also spoke of the differences between the Arab Revolution and the Turkish Gezi protest movements. She said that in reality Turkey’s Gezi movements started with America’s leftist socialist upper-class and leftist arguments in other words ‘Corporate Capitalism’ or in other words ‘Occupy Wall Street’ show a lot of similarities but American and European media do not show the people the way it really is. She also didn’t forget to mention that at this point Turkey’s struggle to explain its problems has a big effect on this and it also unveils a huge minus. She said that Turkey has to have an expert and a channel to be able to express itself. Ceren Kenar stated her views on the topic, gave some suggestions for solutions and shared her views with other members of the platform.
In the meeting Dr. Mustafa Aydin shared some of his experiences of the 4 years he spent in Egypt as a military attaché. Aydin shared his view on how the middle east has to be looked at through 3 different views from Turkey’s perspective and said that the origin of the problems is due to pre-Ottoman and post-Ottoman issues and also due to the rough transitions of contemporary politics. He also added, “”We couldn’t control the transitions through time periods. A sharp line was formed. The reason we are having these problems now is due to the transitions not being smooth enough.”” He also stressed the importance of when running a country politically it is important to not look through a single perspective. And ended his speech with the following sentences, “”I think that it is inevitable to not discuss why a world actor is interested in a particular geography and how much that world actor is interested in that geography thoroughly. After we have made this examination, maybe then can we lead a more sensible policy in that region.””
